In December 2020, the five United Nations co-lead agencies in Cameroon implemented the Education Plus initiative under the One UN banner. In collaboration with key government ministries, civil society organizations, youth leaders, women’s rights organizations, traditional and religious leaders, the private sector and technical and financial partners, the team adopted an inclusive, bottom-up stakeholder engagement strategy to co-create the Education Plus initiative design and priorities.

On 21 June 2021, the Education Plus initiative was launched by the country’s Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute, and the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Matthias Z. Naab. After the launch, the Education Plus initiative Cameroon team established a workplan with priorities and lead roles. The government set up an inter-ministerial task force under the cabinet of the Prime Minister in charge of advancing the Education Plus initiative to enhance country ownership of the initiative and inter-ministerial collaboration.

A nationwide communication campaign was launched on billboards and social media to raise awareness of the Education Plus initiative. The campaign was designed in partnership with Cameroonian French tennis star and singer Yannick Noah.
