The President of Senegal and current chair of the African Union, H.E Macky Sall launched the Education Plus Initiative at the Africa Union summit in Lusaka, Zambia flanked by three other presidents and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat. President Macky Sall pledged to implement to the initiative in Senegal to join other African countries commitments. Between 2010 and 2018, Senegal devoted over 5% of GDP to public expenditure on education, above the average of 3.7% for sub-Saharan Africa.

Β· 30.5% of women aged 20–24 years old who were married or in a union before age 18.
Β· 53.2% of women had their need for family planning satisfied with modern methods in 2019.
Β· 1.5 million children were already out of school before COVID-19.
