The Government of South Africa, through its Department of Basic Education and partners, joined five United Nations agencies—UNAIDS, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNICEF and UN Women—to launch the Education Plus initiative on 31 March 2022.

· Nearly 1000 adolescent girls and young women between the ages of 15-24 are newly infected with HIV every week.
· The percentage of females aged between 15 and 19 who have began childbearing is 15.6%
· Female completion rate for upper secondary is 52.5% for upper secondary compared to 90.4% for lower secondary
· 20.1% of femalesd between ages 15-24 are living below the international poverty line
· Comprehensive and correct knowledge on HIV/AIDS stands at 46.1%
· 84% of females aged 15-24 have engaged in higher-risk sex in the previous year but condom use during higher risk sex is 61%
· Women and girls aged 10+ spend 15.6% of their time on unpaid care and domestic work, compared to 6.5% spent by men.
